My Ongoing Art Adventure--October 2020

The change in the weather inspires me to paint more. I am painting equal amounts of oil paintings and watercolor paintings. I have now posted all the watercolors I have done in the past two months. October is the month that the Santa Clarita Artists Association has their main fundraiser "The Art Classic" for the past 31 years. This year we had to have the show virtual on Friday Oct. 17th. The Zoom show was a lot of fun and the art was inspiring. Visit the SCAA website (santaclaritaartists.org) to see all the art in the show by categories and to enjoy the music that goes with it. I won 2 awards, "Coral Reef" and "Three Giraffes" These artworks are featured on each blog shown here. I have photographed all the walls in my house just in case we have a fire so I can save images of all my work. I am selecting new topics for paintings that I will work on for the next two months. Maybe you will visit my complete website for your enjoyment or for gift giving for the upcoming holiday seasons. I think I will explore Utube videos for some additional lessons.

Please send me comments on the website so I can continue to stay in tough with you. Artfully yours. Dody Rogers

My Ongoing Art Adventure--Sept. 2020

I began August adding artistic touches to my garden, replanting pots, fertilizing, and enjoying the local nurseries.. I also repainted my front patio furniture and got bright red cushions for all the chairs. Jeanne Iler returned for another watercolor lesson. This time we covered flowers with Chinese brushes. This is a whole new chapter with watercolor. I am still organizing all the watercolors I did last month (30) including matting, framing, photographing and adding those images to this website. Check them out. This month I also spent quite a bit of time researching my collectionc of photographs. This research brings back memories of past trips and photo shoots for the past 15 years and creates a lot of excitement and motivation in planning upcoming artwork. My favorite places were. Mammoth Mountain ( four seasons), North. Calif wine country, Alaska, Quebec, Canada, Alburque Balloon festival, Huntington Museum & Gardens. Puerta Vallarta, and Rhine river. Other locations were Bar Harbor Maine, California Coast, Route 66, Sedona, Arizona, Tesoro Adobe, Santa Clarita, Nova Scotia, Getty Museum, and My Backyard. Local art shows coming up are keeping me busy. Fortunately, I have already prepared new art for these shows but still a lot of time is spent photographing these paintings and putting them on this website. Then there is the waiting to see which art will be accepted. I am amazed that by reaching out on this blog I have heard from so many of you on an email response. Keep busy, keep safe, and keep in touch with friends and family. Pass this blog on to your friends who enjoy art.

My ongoing Art Adventure-- August 2020

In the beginning of July I was just starting to make plans to be in the outside world (in a small scale) and the Covid 19 reared it's ugly head again and brought fear to all and a shutdown started again. I guess I will cancel my watercolor lessons for a few weeks. I still will study painting on line and will join a few virtual shows that come my way. The Santa Clarita Artists Association and the Galeria Gitana in San Fernando are keeping a virtual show schedule going. On the 4th of July I set a goal for myself to paint 30 small watercolors in 30 days. This filled my days with learning and enjoying the watercolor experience. I completed my goal on July 31st. I have put many of these watercolors on this website. Even though I was creating art as if I was on an island I depend on sharing it with others to make it come "alive". Thank you to those of you who give me feedback. I have put up an art display including some of my collectables at Abe's on Main in downtown Newhall at 24336 Main Street. Abe's is open Mon.- Sat. 10 to 6. It is a facinating place to browse and buy all kinds of gifts and creative items. I hope you have time to stop by.
Thinking positively and creativly is the most important part of my life now. Here are some positive things I am reflecting on each day in our altered lives. 1. Everyday is Saturday. 2. Lots of time for Artwork. 3. Enjoying cooking at home. 4. Hugging my dog. 5. Dressing casual every day. 6. Saving money. 7. I can take a nap every day. Stay connected. Pass this on to any of your friends that are are lovers.

My Ongoing Art Adventure--July 2020

My new art studio space makes it so much more enjoyable and easy to paint and draw each day. It is also very colorful as well. I also loaded all new paintings on this website. Thank you to all of you that have taken a look and shared your thoughts with me. Some of you have purchased items there (cards, mugs, t-shirts, masks, cushions, and tote bags.). The website is very clever and they have very good quality. Be careful on sizing on everything. I have been doing some study on U-tube and in books on watercolor painting. Watercolor is an exciting and vast world of art. Last Monday, Jeanne Iler, an active member of SCAA came over and gave me a lesson in beginning watercolor. It was fabulous!
The clubs I usually show with are having only virtual shows during the virus. On each website they have the show artwork with added music! Make no mistake, this is not an equal substitute for getting to see artwork in person. Not by a long shot. No video or website can match the impact of standing in front of a painting or sculpture. And none of these virtual experiences come with the same camaraderie that's such an important part of the art world. Thanks for visiting with me through email. One day soon, when we meet again in person, we'll be grateful that we stayed "virtually" connected through all of it. Please forward this to all of you friends that enjoy art.

My Ongoing Art Adventure-May 2020

This is the second month of "My Art Adventure" Blog. I never thought we would be shut down for so long. Now I see the shut down will remain in my head far longer than the government dictates just because I have apprehension about being in crowds because of my age. Years ago I remember telling Tom I didin't like crowds. I thought it was because I was so short. Little did I know how wise I was. I continue to post new artwork on this website. I completed about 6 paintings and some small works as well. Fine art america has added "face masks" ($15) as a new product that can be ordered with artist images on them. Since we will be wearing masks for some time, check out the designs on this website.
This last month I have continued to organize my new art studio and empty out all the extras in my back room. I have a pile of items in my garage waiting for the Goodwill to reopen so I can unload these gems. I have been enjoyong old photo albums of all the trips we have taken. One special gem I found was a box of letters my father wrote to my mother while he was in the merchant marines at the end of World War ll . Many touching thoughts were shared and now special to me.
In my new studio I have been continuing to experiment on different oil painting subjects, sketching and watercolor on Google.I have been reviewing many of the photographs I took in the High Sierras and the many trips Tom and I took around the world. I will be creating some new oil paintings from these photographs. Hope to see your "live" face soon. Dody

My Art Adventure- April 2020

Welcome to my first "Art Adventure" message. Since I'm not socializing in Santa Clarita during the "lock down", I'm spending more time drawing, oil painting and learning water color "on line". For the past 8 years I have painted or photographed 1-3 works each month. Now, for my own enjoyment I am painting about 3 works each week!
One Problem
No one to see them.
I have been posting al finished work on this site so the world of art lovers can see them. I like that this website makes quality prints and other products with the images of my art at affordable prices. They ship them direct to you. I have also been redoing my art studio so I can have good light and storage to work effectively. I will keep in touch and share with you any new art I am creating. I appreciate any comments and I hope you enjoy seeing some art during your lock down.

Artfully yours, Dody Rogers.
